One Aggravated Hip and Hipster!!!

OK! Where shall I begin.... I don't want to come off as one very angry hipster..I prefer to be a more chill hipster, but that may not be the case at the moment....due to ONE my apt with DR M. this past monday he put out the word "THR"!!!!!!!!!!

For all you non-hipsters THR=Total Hip Replacement. Now if I am not mistaken I just spent the past 4 years of my life undergoing 3 surgeries and 3 recoveries so I would not have to have a THR, because it was not recommended for someone my age. For Reals!!! I am at a lost for words..which is very unusual for me ;)
So at this moment I am awaiting a day surgery in January at BI hospital since I am now officially to old for Children's to have a diagnostic procedure on my hip joint. According to DR. M it just may have been to late to save my hip with the "conservative method" due to the arthritis in my hip from all the cartilage damage and lack of labrum. Again for all you non-hipsters..A THR (in most circumstances) would have been a much easier surgery and recovery than the surgery I had this past year. Also a THR will not fix my psoas tendon issue caused by my previous surgeries..again lost for words. He is not quite sure how my psoas tendon will turn out..there is not a lot he feels like he can's a very tricky tendon that has been inflamed for years. Immobilization of it will only make my hip worse and doing surgery on it could risk making the tendon worse..can I  say WTF on here..well it's my blog and I just did! I told you I was angry!
At this point I am still using my cane for distance, still can't drive (that "drives" me crazy) and still in physical therapy. My physical therapist has been amazing and is not quite giving up on me and my hip like I feel Dr M is at the moment. He is still all about strengthening my weak and atrophied muscles, protecting my tendons, and trying to get my hip to work as best as it possibly can..Yay PT Guy.... my hip and I thank you!!!!!!!!
I will leave this post off on a happy note..don't want to be now labeled as the "Angry Hipster" ;)!!!  "D" got me a puppy...(take a look back to my post on "Puppy Love") and I was right puppies really are the best medicine!!

  1. It may sound like a joke to say this but get another opinion. It's your body, they just make the rounds. I feel ok saying that now. Your body is not a car going in for a tune up. Don't let anyone treat you like this is an oil change. This is your temple!

    Love you

  2. I agree i would get a second opinion as well good luck i did not have any surgery but was told at one point i needed one then things changed out of the blue well good luck

  3. WTF wasn't expecting that! Nooo crazy after all you've been thru.
Might be too advance but the 2 things helped my 7 yrs of aggro on my psoas was ART (active release) and sphynx position 10 mins per day.
I don't know what to say! (rare!)

  4. Don't worry about being labeled angry lol. Can't worry about that anymore than I can worry about people labeling me crazy. Wow I am so sorry to hear they are suggesting that now. Animals are wonderful healers. I love your boots too! Hang in there hip chick!

  5. Thanks Everyone!!!! I will definitely get a 2nd and probably 3rd opinion before I make any decisions.
Love You Nancy for all your support and info and for being such an awesome friend!!!
@ jenny: thanks sweetie..I am so glad you don't have to have surgery!!!!!
@Louisa: For Reals..wasn't expecting only expectations from this surgery was that my hip would feel BETTER!!..ugh! I will definitely look into psoas tendon drives me is so tight!! Thanks hunnie!
@HS: LOL Thanks Sweetie. Thanks for the boot compliment too..they are comfy and supportive they are made by the Softt :)

  6. I can totally relate to what you are going through. I was 36 when I fell on my hip and it took a year to convince my gp and a general sports injury dr.that something was very wrong with my hip. Finally they sent me to a dr. that specialized in labral tears, which I did have and got fixed for that but wasn't diagnoised for my cam and pincer type impingement with a laral detachment also. So another year later after finally being reffered to a hip specialist and diagnoised with the above I am on route for the operation this spring. So it has been over 3 1/2 years. So to have constant hip pain with every activity that I try to do will be nice to know will be coming to an end. Hopefully. Good luck to you.

  7. Hi Tammy!
It's so amazing to me to hear how many young people have hip issues and how looooong it takes them to get help from the DR's out there..quite frustrating..especially when you are in pain!!! It does seem like we have had a similar is quite frustrating not to have FAI diagnosed would have save me two surgeries and a open surgery if they did. I hope you have great success with your surgery and are out of pain very soon!! :) Thank You!
